Programs Under the Commission’s Strong Families Initiative

Giving Children a Greater Chance at Success

Strong Families programs support and strengthen families in ways that promote good parenting for the optimal development of young children. Helping homeless families and families at risk for homelessness has translated into funding to:

  • Provide for transitional shelter programs in partnership with HomeAid Orange County.
  • Provide construction funds for new shelters. • Create Motel Outreach program.
  • Structure a multi-layered homeless prevention program to reach every type of population across the continuum.
  • Provide motel vouchers and staff support to families with young children that seek shelter at armories.

The Commission partners with HomeAid Orange County, to support nine transitional shelters to provide a safe and stable home, along with support and case management to help families with young children become self-sufficient :.

  • Precious Life Shelter
  • Casa Teresa
  • Colette’s Children’s Home
  • Families Forward
  • Heritage House
  • Fullerton Interfaith Emergency Service, Inc. (FIES)
  • Orange County Rescue Mission Village of Hope
  • Orange County Rescue Mission Hope Family Housing
  • Tustin Family Campus

Essentials for Young Lives annual campaign is a community-wide effort to collect “essential” baby items for homeless mothers and their infants, sponsored by HomeAid Orange County in partnership with the Children and Families Commission of Orange County and the YMCA of Orange County. Donations of diapers, baby wipes, baby food and baby hygiene products are collected and delivered to 16 of HomeAid’s service provider partners that give aid and shelter to homeless families.
